KUCHING, March 17: The presence of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at a Ramadan breaking-of-fast event with the Eastern Field Command of the Malaysian Army (MK PMTTD) has been hailed as a powerful symbol of unity and close cooperation between the State leadership and the country’s defence forces.

The event, held yesterday (March 16) at the Solahuddin Al-Ayubbi Mosque in Penrissen Camp, was hosted by the Eastern Field Command Headquarters (MK PMTTD) as part of its annual initiative to strengthen ties between the army, state leaders, and the local community during the holy month of Ramadan, according to a TVS news report.

Abang Johari’s attendance was seen as a strong endorsement of the enduring collaboration between the Malaysian Army and the Sarawak government, reflecting a broader commitment to national unity and social harmony.

Beyond enhancing camaraderie between military personnel and civil leaders, the event also aimed to promote togetherness among the people of Sarawak, especially during Ramadan—a time marked by reflection, compassion, and solidarity.

The Premier was received with full honours by First Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Khairul Anuar Abd Aziz upon his arrival at the venue.

During the ceremony, Abang Johari also presented donations—consisting of hampers and cash assistance—to five beneficiaries comprising army personnel and children with chronic illnesses, underscoring the State government’s commitment to the welfare of military families.

He also visited a replica of the N26 Gedong tactical headquarters, a display highlighting the army’s preparedness and dedication to national security.

The evening continued with the breaking of fast, followed by Maghrib, Isyak, and Terawih prayers performed in congregation.

Also in attendance were Sarawak Transport Minister Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, and Sarawak State Secretary and Commander of the 510 Regiment Territorial Army Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. — DayakDaily
