KUCHING, April 5: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been invited to speak at major international platforms in Shanghai, Brazil, and the United States this year, underscoring the State’s rising profile in sustainable development and the global green economy.
Speaking at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering in Sibu last night (April 4), Abang Johari said he was honoured to be invited to present Sarawak’s development strategies in Shanghai, China, and to share insights on the state’s hydrogen economy in Brazil by the end of 2025.
“In Shanghai, I will speak on our approach to development in Sarawak. And Insya-Allah, I’ve also been invited to Brazil to talk about our progress in the hydrogen economy.
“In other words, Sarawak is being recognised by the world for what we are doing,” he said. An audio recording of his speech was made available to DayakDaily afterwards.
Abang Johari also shared that representatives from Bank of America had personally met with him to discuss tariff-related matters and expressed interest in Sarawak’s development model. They have invited him to present this vision to Fortune 500 companies under their network.
“They are sponsoring and arranging my visit to the United States to share Sarawak’s vision,” he added.
He also highlighted the increasing urgency of environmental issues, citing recent earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand — countries not typically prone to such disasters — as evidence of the growing impact of climate change.
“Sarawak is taking proactive steps to mitigate the effects of climate change by embracing renewable energy. This is our contribution to solving a global crisis,” he stressed.
With its bold transition into green energy, Sarawak is rapidly emerging as a model for sustainable development — not only in Malaysia but also on the world stage. – DayakDaily
