Premier Abang Jo joins over 1,000 Muslims in ushering Maal Hijrah

KUCHING, July 7: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined a congregation of over 1,000 Muslims at Masjid Jamek here to usher in Maal Hijrah 1446H last night (July 6).

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Abang Johari’s arrival was welcomed by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi at around 6.20pm.

The ceremony began with the recitation of the 1445H year-end doa led by Sarawak Imam Besar Dato Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi.

This was followed by Maghrib prayers, the doa for 1446H, reciting of the Yassin, ‘tazkirah’ (talk) on Maal Hijrah entitled ‘Environmental Sustainability According to Islam’ delivered by Sarawak Mufti Datu Kipli Yassin, and Isyak prayers.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha and Sarawak Islamic Religion Department director Mual Suaud. — DayakDaily
