MIRI, April 13: An 18-year-old girl, who is three months pregnant, and two senior citizens aged 60 and 63, are among 39 people who tested positive for drugs during raids conducted in Miri and Subis district beginning April 10.
The three-day operation was mounted by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) Miri Branch and supported by the Resident Committee (RC) and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela).
The total number of people rounded up was 43, aged between 17 and 63, but only 39 of them — including a 17-year-old boy — tested positive for drugs.
The operation also seized a sexually explicit half body mannequin.
In Miri, the areas targeted were Kampung Pulau Melayu, Tudan, Pujut and Permyjaya. During these raids, 24 people were detained.
“Out of the 24 people detained, 20, including the pregnant girl, tested positive for drugs (syabu and ganja),” said Nada Miri chief Mazlan Jikran.
In Subis, the teams raided Kampung Subak, Bekenu’s junction, Bukit Peninjau, Kampung Kawang and Kampung Dagang. During these raids, 19 people were picked up.
“All (19 of them) tested positive for drugs,” said Mazlan.
It was in Kampung Subak that the mannequin was found, in the house of a suspected drug offender.
All the suspects are being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependence (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983. — DayakDaily
