KUCHING, March 2: The Sarawak Skills Development Centre (Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak or PPKS) at Tabuan Jaya here has been appointed as a Training Centre for short courses under the Human Resources Development Fund’s (HRDF) SME Skills Scheme.

The short courses, namely Basic Programmable Logic Control (PLC) in Automation System and Wireman Grade II (Single Phase), will commence in the third week of March.

PPKS deputy executive director (business development) and International College of Advanced Technology Sarawak (i-CATS) chief executive officer Mohamad Isham Fauzi in a press statement revealed i-CATS is reaching out to both HRDF registered and non-registered small and medium enterprise (SME) employers, to share with them this golden opportunity to upgrade their employees’ industry-relevant knowledge and skills via the two short courses.

“These courses are fully funded by HRDF, and with the emergence of the digital economy and Industry Revolution 4.0 in Malaysia, a significant trend will be the increased adoption of automation for SMEs, especially in the manufacturing sector,” he highlighted.

Mohamad Isham also noted that the three-day Basic Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) in Automation System course will be an all-important first step for SMEs to manage costs effectively, boost productivity and expand their market reach.

According to him, it will be an exciting way forward for SMEs to transform their operations.

He also revealed that the five-day Wireman Grade II (Single Phase) course offered excellent career prospects for competent wiremen and chargemen in Sarawak.

“This certification course prepares participants for the EIU (Electrical Inspectorate Unit, which is under the Ministry of Utilities Sarawak) examination,” he added.

Mohamad Isham also highlighted that with many strategic development initiatives in Sarawak coupled with the state’s target to achieve full electrification by 2025, trainees who embark on wireman and chargeman courses can look forward to exciting careers.
