KUCHING, Oct 2: Police have arrested a 36-year-old Pos Malaysia staff member in Kabong, Betong for allegedly embezzling company funds amounting to RM5,613.87 for his personal use.
Saratok district police chief DSP Mathew Maggie said the suspect was detained yesterday (Oct 1), following a police report lodged by a branch manager representing Pos Malaysia Berhad.
“According to the report, the suspect, who worked as a delivery postman at the Mel Kabong mail delivery centre, failed to deposit a total of RM5,613.87 into Pos Malaysia’s company account.
“In addition, he also did not return 69 postal items,” Mathew said in a statement.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect admitted to misappropriating the funds for his own use.
The case is being investigated under Section 408 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust by a servant, which carries a punishment of imprisonment of up to 14 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction. – DayakDaily
