KUCHING, Oct 9: Sarawakians must play their part to ensure the State’s political stability and economic resilience persist under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
In asserting this, political pundit Dato Peter Minos said in politics, anything can and will happen as in 2018 when Barisan Nasional (BN) especially United Malays National Organisation (Umno) split and almost collapsed, resulting in a breakaway by Sarawak and the formation of GPS.
“Thankfully, GPS has turned out to be good to Sarawak’s political unity. But Sarawakians must play their part in ensuring that GPS must always be perpetually united and strong in developing and safeguarding Sarawak’s interests,” he said in a statement today.
Minos, who is the former deputy information chief for Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), said political unity in GPS is one thing but using that unity for the economic development of Sarawak is another thing.
He said he could see that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has vigorously sought and put in both bold ideas including strategies for new industries and new initiatives.
“So far so good. But a lot of effort and energy must be put in by Sarawakians and not leaving it all to the leadership.
“Firstly, the people must accept new changes and new industries with open hearts. Secondly, the people must help and contribute when and where possible. Lastly, keep up the resilience and persistence especially if faced with obstacles along the way,” he added.
He also opined that Sarawakians get the underlying message that political unity, while precious, must be translated into concrete economic advancement and progress.
He said that it is a successful economic progress that will see and ensure a fine future for Sarawak and its people.
“It is this economic success that will result in Sarawak being looked up to, be respected by friends and foes alike, be the inspiration for others, and above all, not be dominated and controlled by whoever while at the same time is confident when facing any challenges from any quarter,” he said. — DayakDaily
