KUCHING, July 25: It is embarrassing that the contrast between the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) facilities at Entekong, Kalimantan, Indonesia, and Tebedu, Sarawak, Malaysia is so obvious, says political pundit Dato Peter Minos.
In a statement today, Minos admitted feeling ‘malu’ (shy) about the differences, as Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg described Entekong’s CIQ as resembling an airport, while Tebedu’s facility was likened to a ramshackle structure.
The Premier made the comment during a recent interview on the ‘Keluar Sekejap’ podcast, hosted by Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan.
“The contrast tells us many things. The Federal government is not defending Sarawak’s pride and should have done a good job at Tebedu,” Minos stated.
“Knowing that our neighbour is fast growing and advancing, the Federal government should focus on developing Sarawak. As it is, Sarawak is taking all the initiatives and all the burdens,” he added.
Minos reiterated that even after 60 years, not all the provisions agreed upon in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) have been implemented or returned to Sarawak.
“Naturally, Sarawak is asking and appealing and will continue to do so if things on MA63 are not settled,” he opined.
Minos argued that Sarawak is not making unreasonable demands but merely reminding the Federal government of its duty and obligation to comply with all the terms and conditions of MA63.
He added that with all the massive revenue from Sarawak generated through Petroliam Nasional Berhad and other taxes, as well as its many powers, the Federal government could fulfill these obligations if it chooses to. — DayakDaily
