KUCHING, Nov 13: Police arrested a 57-year-old man and seized 10.4 kilogrammes of drugs worth RM332,800 during a raid on a flat in Jalan Matang on Monday (Nov 11).
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mancha Ata revealed that the suspect has a serious criminal record under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“The suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. A Kawasaki Z900 motorcycle, valued at RM50,000, was also confiscated,” he said in a statement today.
Mancha further stated that the amount of drugs seized could potentially be distributed to 52,000 addicts.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days, from Nov 13 to 19, and investigations are underway under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted, the offense carries a penalty of death or life imprisonment, or whipping of no less than 12 strokes.
Mancha also highlighted that, from Jan 1 to Nov 10 this year, police made 9,374 arrests, including 465 drug dealers, 1,681 individuals for drug possession, and 7,228 drug users.
“In total, we seized various drugs weighing 289.7kg, 93.39 litres of liquid drugs, and 143 cannabis plants, with a combined value of RM39 million.
“We also confiscated assets worth RM3.97 million in efforts to dismantle the financial networks of drug syndicates,” he explained.
