KUCHING, Feb 22: Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) has identified individuals wielding dangerous objects in a public place, as shown in a viral video on social media.
Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad disclosed a police report had been lodged over the viral video which is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
According to him, offenders are liable to a 5–10-year prison sentence if convicted.
“The police have successfully identified a few individuals that were involved and (we) believe that an arrest will be made soon.
“(We) have set up an operation to track down and arrest the individuals in question, with the aid of teams D7 and D9 from the Criminal Investigation Department Contingent Police Headquarters (JSJ IPK) of Sarawak,” said Abang Zainal Abidin in a statement yesterday (Feb 21).
It is understood that the video was recorded in a public parking lot located at Jalan Batu Kawa, Kuching.
Abang Zainal Abidin emphasised that the police is taking the matter seriously.
“The public should keep on trusting the police to enforce the law and channel any information whatsoever to assist in solving the reported crime,” he added. — DayakDaily
