Police seeking Facebook user over fake beheading post

Datuk Dev Kumar

KUCHING, March 16: Police are hunting for a Facebook user by the name of Kenedy Morie over a fake online post that has gone viral on social media.

State CID chief SAC Datuk Dev Kumar said police were alerted today, about a video clip circulating on social media depicting a woman apparently being stabbed and beheaded by a masked man.

“I am advising this Facebook user by the name of ‘Kenedy Morie’ to come forward as soon as possible and assist us in the investigation,” Dev said.

“Some facebook users have falsely attributed the video to the Sri Aman murder case where the head of a woman was found at a riverbank at Skait, Sri Aman,” he added.

Checks by the police have confirmed that the video of the woman being stabbed and beheaded originated from a country in South America and is in no way related to the case in Sri Aman.

A police report has been lodged against the circulation of the video and the case is being investigated under sections 500 of the Penal Code and 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

“At the same time, we are warning social media users to stop spreading false news that could hamper the investigation and prosecution of the murder case,” Dev warned. — DayakDaily
