KUCHING, Sept 12: The police is urging anyone with information on a fatal accident occurring at approximately 11.20pm on Sept 11 along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce to step forward.
The accident took place in front of Hung Hung Hotel in Kuching, involving a motorcyclist travelling from Jalan Stakan to Jalan Satok who is believed to have lost control of the vehicle.
A statement from the Kuching District Police Headquarters indicated that as the motorcycle approached Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce, it veered off the road and collided with a tree on the left side, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown off.
The motorcycle caught fire, sustaining severe damage. The rider, a 25-year-old local man, suffered critical injuries and was immediately rushed to Sarawak General Hospital.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, the rider was pronounced dead at 12.27am on Sept 12 at the hospital’s emergency ward.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of RM50,000 if convicted.
The police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
