KUCHING, Nov 10: Police have opened an investigation paper in relation to a case of burning of political party flags in Engkilili.

A police spokesperson for the 15th General Election (GE15), Supt Douglas Nyeging Taong said the investigation paper was opened under Penal Code Section 436, which is the offense of mischief by fire.

This was one out of four investigation papers opened by the Sarawak police following nine police reports received yesterday (Nov 9).

The remaining three investigation papers were opened under the Penal Code Section 427 for causing damage to flags, banners, and campaign materials of one of the contesting political parties in Lubok Antu and Serian districts.

“Four police reports were received relating to the action of election enforcement officers who have taken down some banners that violated the conditions and rules set by the Election Commission (EC).

“These four cases have been referred to EC for further action,” said Nyeging in a statement today.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak police commissioner advised contesting political parties to urge their supporters not to break the law or commit any offenses during the GE15 campaign period. —DayakDaily
