Murum assemblyman Chukpai’s phone number hijacked by scammers

The conversation between DayakDaily's reporter and Chukpai, which the latter has confirmed is a scam message sent by someone who has hijacked his phone number.

MIRI, Nov 10: Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon’s phone number has possibly been hijacked or cloned by scammers, after several unsolicited messages were sent from his phone number via Telegram today.

Earlier today, DayakDaily’s reporter received a message from Chukpai’s number at 12.28pm, which read: “Can I ask for help?”

Upon replying him, the reporter received another response, purportedly seeking help to borrow money.

The message said: “I want to borrow 2K money for a transfer, tomorrow morning at 9 I will give it back.”

When DayakDaily did a check and contacted Chukpai directly, he denied sending any message seeking to borrow money from anyone.

He confirmed that his personal Telegram account had been hijacked by scammers.

“I never send such messages out and I don’t know how it could happen. I urged the public, family and friends not to believe and ignore the scam message,” Chukpai said when contacted. — DayakDaily
