KUCHING, Nov 1: A 23-year-old local man is being investigated after he allegedly made a false report saying he had been robbed of RM3,000 at Foochow Road here.

Kuching District Police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the police have opened an investigation paper after investigations revealed that the suspect had plotted a fake story for personal purposes.

“On Oct 31, the police successfully detected a false police report lodged by a local man who claimed that he was robbed at Foochow Road here and suffered a loss of about RM3,000 including personal documents,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment of not more than six months or both, if convicted.

Throughout 2021, Ahsmon said that 10 false police reports were detected, while in January to October this year, as many as seven police reports in connection to robbery have been lodged with all suspects having been charged in the Magistrate Court.

The police reminded the public not to make false reports that could give an impression of the occurrence of crime in Kuching District. — DayakDaily
