Police inspector to hang for girlfriend’s murder

KUCHING, March 9: The High Court here found a police inspector guilty of the murder of his girlfriend in 2017 and sentenced him to death.

High Court Judicial Commissioner (JC) Christopher Chin Soo Yin ruled that the facts found satisfactorily prove the ingredients of murder as stipulated in Section 300 of the Penal Code and that the prosecution has proven the charge against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.

Chin found the accused guilty as charged and sentenced the accused in pursuant to Section 302 of the Penal Code to death by hanging. Section 302 of the Penal Code carries a mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.

Mohammad Sohffian Abu Hassan, 40, was charged with killing Siti Nadrah Abdullah, 33, in Kampung Kakai, Serian, at about 3.15pm on May 21, 2017.

At the time, Mohammad Sohffian was attached to a police station in the sub-district of Belaga.

It was reported that the deceased was shot dead and the accused fled the scene in a police car before he was arrested by the police in front of Emart in Matang.

The deceased died from a bullet shot from the accused’s gun. The bullet entered the left side of the deceased’s neck and exited on the right side of her neck.
