BINTANGOR, March 9: A couple was fined RM1,000 each for violating the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) yesterday.

Meradong district police chief, DSP Sekam Anoi said the couple aged 44 and 43 respectively are from a longhouse in Sungai Meradong and were caught by the police EMCO task team in the town centre.

“They were supposed to be in their longhouse which is under lockdown for a Covid-19 active case detection exercise. However they were found in the town,” he said.

The man was also issued a summons for riding a motorcycle without a licence. Police later seized the motorcycle.

“For violating the EMCO, action was taken against them under Regulation 14 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021,” Sekam added.

He advised the public especially those from longhouses under lockdown for ACD to stay indoors.

“Longhouse chieftains should also ensure that their charges follow the SOP (standard operating procedure),” he added. — DayakDaily
