KUCHING, May 12: Police are looking for a male suspect who allegedly tried to set fire to a house by hurling what was believed to be a Molotov cocktail at Jalan Patingan here on Saturday morning (May 10).
According to Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, a call was received from a 41-year-old local man on the incident which took place at around 9.30am.
It was reported that the male suspect threw the hand-thrown incendiary weapon towards the complainant’s house.
“Police are tracking the suspect,” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 11).
The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code which carries a jail sentence up to seven years and may also include a fine upon conviction.
He urged those with information on the incident to contact the Kuching district police headquarters control centre at 082-244444 or the investigating officer ASP Joshua Masing Lugoh at 017-9542048.
Alternatively, they may also go to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, Facebook user AB Zain Azraai, who posted in a group called ‘KAMEK ASAL ORG SATOK’, said he is the neighbour of the complainant.
“The perpetrator cannot be identified, but the owner of the house managed to get a glimpse and said he (suspect) was riding a motorcycle. He had on a helmet and a red jacket.
“He suddenly entered the house compound, lit a bottle containing what appeared to be a flammable substance, and tried to throw it at the house. Thankfully, the attempt failed,” said the Facebook user.
He further urged those with CCTV footage that managed to capture the incident, believed to have happened between 9.15am and 9.30am, to inform the victim. — DayakDaily
