KUCHING, May 25: The Royal Malaysia Police Force (PDRM) have detained 470 individuals during the first day of Hari Raya Aidilftri (May 24) for violating the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob disclosed that out of that number of people, 87 individuals have been remanded and 23 individuals have been bailed out for violating the SOPs during the Conditonal Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.
He said PDRM had issued compound to 383 individuals for violating the SOPs.
“PDRM have also conducted 162 roadblocks nationwide to check on those who want to travel between one state and another. They have also perform check ups on 127,552 vehicles.
“Yesterday, there were 1,243 vehicles which tried to get across states for balik kampung and were instructed to return back,” he said during a media conference today at Putrajaya on the action taken by the operation taskforce to monitor the compliance of SOPs by the public during CMCO.
Ismail Sabri who is Defence Minister observed the number of vehicles which wanted to travel across state yesterday was higher than the number of vehicles recorded during the day before.
Ismail Sabri disclosed that there were 1,158 vehicles which wanted to get across states last Saturday (May 23) as compared to 1,243 vehicles yesterday (May 24).
Ismail Sabri gathered that Selangor recorded the highest number of vehicles that wanted to travel across states at 685 vehicles.
This was followed by Negeri Sembilan with 133 vehicles and then Pahang with 72 vehicles.
Explaining further, Ismail Sabri said those who were detained, fined and arrested for violated the SOPs were not all caught during roadblocks.
He noted the police had conducted search at the residential areas and the hometowns of those who violated the SOPs to detain them.
He pointed out that PDRM will take stern action against those who tried to get across states or districts without their permission by imposing fine or compound.
Ismail Sabri disclosed that PDRM have issued 214 compounds at roadblocks.
He added PDRM have also issued 14 compounds to those who tried to travel between one district to another and subsequently detected at their hometowns.
Ismail Sabri said the police will also track down those who travelled from one state to another by sneaking through rat trails.
He asserted that the police will continue to work during Hari Raya Aidilfitri to monitor the traffic situation throughout the country.
At the same time, Ismail Sabri revealed that there were five sanitation operations in public places conducted nationwide yesterday.
Out of the five, four were in Sabah and one in Sarawak.
On another note, Ismail Sabri asserted that the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration this year is being conducted in the new norm following the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia.
He opined Covid-19 has changed how Muslims in the country celebrate Hari Raya Aidifitri which is different from yesteryears.
Hence, he urged the people to abide by the SOPs during the festive seasons to ensure that the country is able to win the war against Covid-19 soon. -DayakDaily
