Police cut power to 4 online gambling centres in Kuching

KUCHING, Oct 18: The police in collaboration with Sesco today disconnected the power supply to three business premises and one residential home around Kuching that were being used as online gambling operation centres.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the operation was carried out by four officers from Criminal Investigation Division Kuching along with two Sesco technicians from 9am until 3pm.

“This action to cut off electricity supply to these premises is in accordance with the enforcement authority provided under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 (Act 289),” he said in a statement today.

Based on the provisions under Section 21A of the Act, any premises whose electricity supply has been disconnected cannot be reconnected without written permission from the District Police Chief.

“This regulation has been enforced to curb gambling activities, particularly in Kuching District,” Ahsmon added. — DayakDaily
