Police bust two illegal online gambling outlets

Police raided a house and a condominium on July 22, 2020 which were allegedly used as illegal online gambling centre.

KUCHING, July 23: Two illegal call centers, allegedly used as online gambling outlets raking in an average of RM8,000 to RM10,000 a day, were busted by the police yesterday.

Sarawak CID chief SAC Dennis Leong said eight foreigners and one local man aged between 20 and 36 years old were arrested during the raid.

“The first raid was conducted in a double storey terrace house located at Jalan Stampin Baru at about 9am on July 22. Three female foreigners were arrested, while seven mobile phones and three units of computers were confiscated.


“The second raid was made at a condominium in Jalan Sarip Masahor whereby one local man, three male and two female foreigners were arrested. Among the items seized were four units of computers and four mobile phones,” Leong said in a statement.

Based on their investigations, Leong said the syndicate was believed to be operating in the last six months and raked in about RM8,000 to RM10,000 per day.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(g) of Common Gaming House Act 1953 and Section 15(1)(c) of Immigration Act 1959/63.—DayakDaily
