KUCHING, Oct 28: Perikatan Nasional (PN) strongly condemns the recent remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron as Islamophobic.

Its information chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in a press statement asserted Macron’s remarks were “absolutely unacceptable”.

“We condemn in the strongest terms the recent remarks by French President Macron attacking Islam, the Prophet Muhammad and the Muslim ummah at large.

“The inflammatory and disparaging remarks are absolutely unacceptable and should be denounced by all right-thinking people regardless of nationality or religion,” Azmin emphasised.

Azmin opined that Macron’s outburst in defaming the Prophet as well as generalising Muslims as terrorists and separatists is undoubtedly hate speech calculated to provoke Muslims across the world while sowing hatred and animosity against Muslims.

“In expressing his myopic and patronising views on how Muslims ought to practise their religion and castigating Islam as a religion ‘which needs Enlightenment’, the French president has made bare his Islamophobia as well as intellectual incapacity to grasp the real issues that impact the world,” revealed Azmin who is also Senior Minister of Economy as well as Minister of International Trade and Industry.

He emphasised it was utterly regrettable that a head of state of a G7 member country, has chosen the path of religious chauvinism and intolerance instead of demonstrating understanding towards other religions and inclusiveness in leadership.

Macron recently was reported as saying he would not prevent the publishing of insulting cartoons of Prophet Muhammad under the pretext of freedom of expression. Calling Islam a problematic religion that needs to be contained, France took a series of actions against mosques and NGOs. — DayakDaily
