New minimum wage of RM1,500 starting May 1, ministries to discuss delayed implementation for small businesses

Dato Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob

KUCHING, March 20: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced a minimum wage rate of RM1,500 per month nationwide starting May 1.

He said the implementation would first involve large and government-linked companies (GLCs).

Ismail Sabri said this during his winding-up speech at the UMNO General Assembly held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

He added the Human Resources Ministry would need further discussions with the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative Ministry to allow small businesses with fewer employees and less income to delay the implementation of the minimum wage. — DayakDaily
