KUCHING, Dec 5: Miri is hopeful to begin building a series of bilateral cooperation with La Trinidad of Benguet, Philippines, in the tourism, culture, and agriculture sectors.

Miri City Council (MCC) mayor Adam Yii said MCC had also established closer ties with other neighbouring countries on inter-city engagement and business opportunity initiatives to promote Miri City as a vibrant economic hub.

“Recently, MCC has convinced one major supermarket to promote Indonesian food products to intensify bilateral ties between Miri City and major cities in Indonesia.

“Earlier this month, Miri City Council also hosted an engagement session with ambassadors and diplomatic corporations from 18 countries based at Brunei Darussalam,” said Yii in his speech during the presentation of the Miri City Mayor Awards 2021/2022 ceremony held at a local hotel in Miri today.

Meanwhile, Yii said MCC would continue to identify many individuals and organisations for their contributions to Miri City.

He also said the list of recipients would continue to increase correspondingly to the city’s continuous growth.

“MCC is grateful the public and private sectors, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and community have displayed their enormous support by joining the council, hand-in-hand, to build a better future for Miri.

“Therefore, those we have identified are deservedly being accorded such awards,” he said. — DayakDaily
