PM Anwar, Sarawak leaders to grace Gawai Dayak 2025 Gala Dinner on June 22

KUCHING, April 28: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will join Sarawak’s top leaders at the Gawai Dayak 2025 Gala Dinner, the main highlight of this year’s state-level celebrations, set for June 22 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the dinner will also be attended by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“The highlight of the celebration is the Gawai Dayak Gala Dinner at BCCK, with the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, the Prime Minister, and the Premier of Sarawak as our distinguished guests,” Uggah said during a press conference after chairing the Main Organising Committee Meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Uggah said the meeting was convened to coordinate and discuss preparations for the upcoming celebration.

He added that the Orang Ulu community had been given the honour of hosting this year’s event, with Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, appointed as the celebration chairman.

Among the main events planned are the Gawai Dayak Bazaar from May 15 to 25, 2025, at MJC Batu Kawa; the Traditional Gawai Carnival on June 13 and 14, 2025, at the Federation of Orang Ulu Associations Malaysia (Forum) building in Miri; and the Gawai Dayak Parade on June 21, 2025, at the Kuching Waterfront.

Additionally, a coffee table book highlighting the culture and heritage of the Dayak community will be launched in conjunction with the celebration.

Also present at the press conference were Minister in the Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (Land and Aviation), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan; and other committee members. — DayakDaily
