KUCHING, April 28: The introduction of Affin Bank’s new “Kenyalang Card” featuring the iconic hornbill is a sign that the bank will soar to greater heights, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Speaking at the Affin Group Hari Raya Open House 2025 here last night (April 27), Abang Johari congratulated Affin Bank for incorporating the image of Sarawak’s symbolic bird, the Kenyalang (hornbill), into its latest card design.
“I have been informed that Affin Bank now has the Kenyalang Card, which features the image of the hornbill.
“Congratulations—you now have a hornbill that can fly. This means Affin Bank will also soar. Hopefully, it will fly across the whole of ASEAN,” he was quoted by TVS as saying.

At the same time, Abang Johari stressed that Sarawak is actively expanding its energy infrastructure—including the ASEAN power grid, natural gas development, and hydrogen industries—as part of its mission to become a regional energy hub.
In view of this, he called upon financial institutions such as Affin Bank to be ready to support investment and financing needs in the new energy sector.
“As you know, Sarawak is now preparing to become part of the ASEAN power grid. As we expand this energy grid, Affin will also grow alongside Sarawak,” he added.
Abang Johari also highlighted that Sarawak is strategically investing not only in energy but also in major infrastructure projects, including the development of a new international airport and petrochemical industries.
“Given the challenges posed by external forces, it is better to strengthen and support our internal resilience. Once the economy is stable, we will be ready to enter the global market,” he pointed out.
Also present at the event were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Affin Bank Group Chairman Datuk Agil Natt, and Affin Bank Group President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah Wan Ali. – DayakDaily
