KUCHING, Sept 11: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has hailed Sarawak’s bold leadership under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, which has propelled the region to be recognised worldwide as a giant in new energy development.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Anwar acknowledged that Sarawak today is far ahead compared to five decades ago, with its vision and innovative policies setting it apart as a model of progress and transformation.

“Sarawak today is not the Sarawak of 50 years ago. Everywhere I go, Geneva, Paris, Japan, people talk about Sarawak as a giant in new energy in this region,” he said when officiating the launch of Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Phase 2 project at Nanga Medamit in Limbang today.

Anwar added that he was impressed with Sarawak’s forward-looking vision and had even invited Abang Johari to share his insights with other state leaders.

“There was a meeting with all the Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers across Malaysia chaired by me. I invited the Premier of Sarawak to share his forward-looking perspective, because there are states that only know how to keep asking, but have no ideas.

“Tomorrow I will also be officiating a new technology in Kuching. See how Sarawak is ahead of other states,” he said.

At the event, Anwar also approved an allocation of about RM11 million for the construction of a clinic in Medamit, following a request by Deputy Transport Minister and Limbang MP Datuk Hasbi Habibollah.
