KUCHING, Aug 15: Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been invited to fly to Kuching for the 27th edition of World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) and 6th International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2023, which would be held concurrently at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here from Oct 4 to 6.
WCIT & IDECS 2023 head of secretariat Malseni Jamal said the twin event would be officiated by both the Prime Minister and Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We have issued the invitation to the Prime Minister to attend so we are waiting for a response.
“The plan is that the launch ceremony would be done together by the Prime Minister and the Premier,” she said during a press conference after the 50 Days Countdown Ceremony of WCIT & IDECS 2023 held at Grand Margherita Hotel here today.
In his speech, Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Datuk Julaihi Narawi who officiated the ceremony said the theme for this year’s WCIT is ‘Innovation and Technology Driving Economic Prosperity, Social Inclusivity and Environmental Sustainability’.
Meanwhile, IDECS theme is ‘Advancing Digital Economy for Sustainable Development’.
The event will explore thought-provoking discussions and provide an opportunity to explore the latest trends, technologies and business models in the digital economy.
It will feature a comprehensive programme and events comprising conferences, exhibitions, a Smart Cities masterclass, a Startup Village, a Global Leaders Round Table, business matching sessions and a gala dinner awards night.
“The convergence of both WCIT and IDECS makes the event a unique platform to bridge the gap and create opportunities to build a business environment and ecosystem driven by innovation, technology and sustainability,” he stated.
Additionally, the WCIT & IDECS 2023 will see the launch of She-Tech Asia Forum 2023 on Oct 3 as a pre-event to highlight and focus on women’s representation in the technology industry.
In a previous report, it was mentioned that the twin event is expected to attract 10,000 participants from all over the world.
It is also worth noting that 50 tickets with 50 per cent discount will be offered to all Sarawakians up until Aug 31.
