KUCHING, April 5: The 27th Edition of the World Congress on Innovation and Technology (WCIT) 2023 and the 6th Edition of the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2023 will be held concurrently at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from Oct 4 to 6.

Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki announced the convergence of these two major technology events after chairing the inaugural organising committee meeting recently.

He said the merger would result in a mega event that is expected to attract 10,000 participants from all over the world, bringing together some of the most well-known technology titan players including the largest single sponsor in WCIT history, Huawei.

“Sarawak is actively developing its digital economy and offers opportunities for investment in e-commerce, digital infrastructure and digital start-ups.

“All these initiatives have expanded Sarawak as the gateway into SEA especially now that all international borders have opened and businesses are rapidly expanding,” said Abu Bakar in a statement yesterday (April 4).

He added that the organisers have gone above and beyond in promoting the event, with WCIT 2023 being featured at major technology events such as Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona and other major upcoming International Technology Events.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani said SDEC is proud to be the host organiser of WCIT 2023, working alongside the National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) as host association.

“WCIT, will bring focus to Sarawak’s economic benefits, complementing our Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS). We are expecting WCIT 2023 to be the greatest tech congregation with the inclusion of IDECS coincide with Sarawak’s 60th Year Celebration,” he added. — DayakDaily
