PM Anwar attends special meeting, briefing on Sarawak’s devt

KUCHING, April 19: A special meeting and briefing on Sarawak’s development was held with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chairing the meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the meeting was held in conjunction with the prime minister’s working visit to Kuching.

It was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the federal and Sarawak governments to achieve comprehensive development across the region.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof were among those in attendance.

In addition, Sarawak ministers and deputy ministers, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Secretaries Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel (Economic Planning and Development) and Datu Hii Chang Kee (Operations), as well as senior government officials, were also present.

The meeting commenced with a presentation on the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) chief executive officer, Dato Janin Girie.

Janin outlined strategic plans to develop Sarawak’s gas sector, which include efforts to increase natural gas production capacity, expand energy infrastructure, and promote downstream investments to reinforce Sarawak’s position as a leading regional energy hub.

This was followed by a briefing from Sarawak Financial Secretary, Dato Sri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, who presented on the role of the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS).

Lizozman highlighted how DBOS contributes to regional economic development by financing strategic projects that deliver direct benefits to the people of Sarawak, particularly in infrastructure, education, and entrepreneurship. — DayakDaily
