KUCHING, Now 21: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali must be allowed to officiate at its National Youth Congress in Melaka this December.

PKR Youth deputy chief Muhammad Hilman Idham said the congress is standing firm with its stand. All Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) representativesĀ and movement in the national and branch level will be mobilisedĀ to uphold the tradition of the partyĀ convention.

ā€œWe have discussed and agreed with the Sarawak PKR leadership council (MPN) to uphold the idealism and principle of Keadilanā€™sĀ struggle.

ā€œThe democracy, autonomy and freedom of free speech must be maintained by every leaders and members of the party,ā€ he said in a statement yesterday.

Muhammad HilmanĀ added that said that theĀ Youth Congress have unanimously agreed to defend the stability of the leadership under Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad from any efforts and measuresĀ that intended to disrupt his position as the seventhĀ prime minister of Malaysia.

Sarawak PKR leadership recently butted heads with the party’s top national leaders over Azminā€™s rescinded invitation to officiate the PKR National Youth Congress slated for Dec 6.

State Keadilan chief Baru Bian said the state leadership council (MPN) had threatened to cancel the state level convention in Miri on Nov 23.

He said out that the MPN consisted of 46 members, out of which 32 members reached consensus to cancel the convention.

A statement on Nov 15, signed by Baru and seven others including national vice-president Ali Biju, said that unless ā€œdemocracy is returned to the partyā€, the PKR Sarawak convention would be cancelled.

However, PKR National Convention director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad refuted this, saying that the convention would go as planned.

Miri PKR chief Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng told a press conference yesterday that the PKR Sarawak Convention in Miri would be held as scheduled, with party president Datuk Seri Anwar IbrahimĀ expected to grace the event.

Anwar was reported as saying on Friday (Nov 15) that the decision to not invite Azmin to officiate at the National Youth Congress would remain amid protests from Sarawak PKR leadership. ā€”Ā DayakDaily
