As such, the council unanimously agreed to reappoint Abun Sui Anyit as the branch’s information chief.

“The council expresses its appreciation to Tay Wei Wei, who resigned as information chief to focus on other duties and commitments.

“The meeting was also informed of Iswardy Morni’s resignation as Petra Jaya branch chief and PKR Sarawak strategic director,” it said.

Among the resolutions taken during the meeting included:

  • Approving the committee members (AJK) of several branches led by new branch chiefs such as the Bintulu, Selangau, Tanjung Manis, Julau, Sibu, and Sri Aman branches.
  • Receiving and confirming the reports from the secretary, Sarawak Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief, PKR Sarawak Women’s chief, and the executive secretary.

The council also expressed gratitude towards its members throughout Sarawak who aided flood victims last month.

The meeting was held yesterday (Feb 22) in conjunction with a special briefing programme by PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh to leaders of the party’s Sarawak branches related to the branch-level annual general meeting and national party elections.

According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT) in a news report dated Feb 11, Iswardy has resigned from all his party positions after being fined RM5,000 last month for insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong four years ago.

Iswardy was charged on June 1, 2021, under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948 for statements made on Facebook deemed to be seditious and insulting towards former king Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

On Jan 23, Iswardy was found guilty by the Kuala Lumpur sessions court and was fined RM5,000, which he had until Feb 6 to file a notice of appeal against.

“A major factor that Iswardy had to consider was that he would be barred from contesting parliamentary or State elections for a period of five years unless he obtained a pardon from the king.

“The Federal Constitution disqualifies anyone from standing as an election candidate for five years after being sentenced to at least one year in jail or fined a minimum of RM2,000,” said FMT in the report. — DayakDaily
