KUCHING, June 2: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak Youth brought festive cheers to 20 poor families at Kampung Lidah Tanah in Batu Kitang here yesterday.
The initiative was led by its Youth chief Saifunnizam Sam and coordinated by its deputy youth chief Jeffery Mok.
The youth members sent 20 boxes of ‘Kotak Senyuman’ comprising food and beverages to needy families in conjunction with the Hari Gawai Dayak and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
According to a media release, a few hundred ‘Kotak Senyuman’ had been distributed throughout Sarawak in the past weeks as part of the initiative to share joy, love and care with the less fortunate.
Yesterday’s group also visited a family whose house had been affected by a landslide last year.
“It is heartwarming to see there is a new roof on the house now. Their house collapsed due to a landslide which was triggered following excessive heavy rainfall some time last year,” Mok said.
“We urge everyone to be extra careful and to be on the alert as the weather is unpredictable and there has been heavy rainfall the past few evenings.”
Besides extending festive greetings to the community at the village, the members also took the opportunity to gather feedback including on various problems and issues faced by the people.
“We will try to work and help find solutions for the problems and issues the villagers have brought up,” he added.
