PKR Sarawak Convention on despite protest shows president’s power

MIRI, Nov 23: The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) State-Level Convention which has proceeded as scheduled today reflected the authority of the party’s president, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo said.

PKR president Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim came all the way from Kuala Lumpur to declare open the convention as planned despite the party’s State leadership Council (MPN) led by Baru Bian opposed and called off the event.

“Very clear to us that MPN in Kuching (is) not following the rules within the party,” he told reporters when met today.

Some 1,200 delegates attended at the convention including party secretary-general Dato Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Julau MP Larry Sng, Hulu Rajang chief Abun Sui Anyit, Baram deputy chief Rolang Enggan and organising chairman Datuk Sng Chee Hua.

As expected, Sarawak PKR chairman Baru Bian, vice-chairman See Chee How and national vice-president Ali Biju did not show up.

Over the past few days, there have been public spats and claims of mutiny against Baru’s leadership.

Baru is backed by 18 PKR Sarawak branches, while 11 others have declared their support for Anwar.— DayakDaily
