KUCHING, Aug 30: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak deputy chairman Senator Abun Sui Anyit has proposed that the Ministry of Education (MOE) introduce the teaching of non-Muslim religious syllabus to non-Muslim students only, under the concept of ‘for non-Muslims only’.
In a statement, Abun Sui said he has no problem with the introduction of ‘Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith’ appreciation module by MOE in the Malaysian school curriculum because it is aimed at instilling the spirit of kindness, love, and empowering religious understanding among Muslim teachers and students, which he believes serves a good purpose.
“This syllabus can be prepared by the respective non-Islamic religious experts. This is important so that, while Muslim students are taught the 40 Nawawi Hadith, non-Muslim students are taught their respective religions.
“When all students are exposed to their respective religions in a quality controlled manner by MOE, it is hoped that this will foster the best spiritual values in all students according to their respective religions because all religions teach goodness,” he said.
Furthermore, he stated that it is possible because Bible Knowledge has been included in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) examination for a long time.
Abun Sui went on to say that this is also how and proof that members of the public practise equality under Article 8 of the Federal Constitution.
“The sincerity of the government to introduce this Hadith 40 Nawawi in schools, then it is appropriate for the government to consider that other religions are taught to the followers of their respective religions.
“This is also very much in line with the values and concept of Malaysia Madani which is courtesy and humanity,” he added. — DayakDaily
