KUCHING, Jan 31: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Women vice-chief Voon Shiak Ni today advised those working outstation to return home to celebrate Chinese New Year with their families or parents.

She said the greatest Chinese New Year gift children could give to their parents and elders at home would be to spend time with them, especially during the reunion dinner on the eve of the festivity.

“We talked to some elderly folk during our Chinese New Year walkabouts, and we can feel their joy and excitement when they told us their sons and daughters would be coming home this year.

“Those big smiles beaming on their faces speak volumes. Time and company is the greatest gift for your parents,” said Voon in a statement today.

Earlier today, Voon and Desmond Kho, political secretary to Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How, went around the city to distribute oranges and ‘kuih bakul’ to constituents as a gesture to share the joy of the festive season and to convey their greetings and good wishes.

Voon said the oranges and the ‘kuih bakul’ are symbols of good health, prosperity and reunions.

“We wish all Sarawakians a Happy Chinese New Year and may everyone be blessed with good health and a fruitful year,” said Voon. — DayakDaily
