KUCHING, July 5: A pillion rider was killed while a motorcyclist was injured in a single-vehicle crash along Jalan Sibu Jaya Barat early this morning.
In a statement, Sibu District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said that the accident was believed to have occurred at 2.25am.
“Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when a motorcycle ridden by a man with a pillion passenger was travelling from Sibu Jaya Barat towards Sibu Jaya township.
“Upon reaching the scene, the motorcycle is believed to have lost control before skidding to the right side of the road,” he said.
As a result of the accident, the rider sustained injuries to both arms and his left leg and was taken to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.
The pillion rider was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Sibu Hospital at approximately 2.48am.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Sibu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
