KUCHING, July 5: AirBorneo is expected to unveil its new fare structure as early as next week or by the middle of this month, with passengers set to benefit from lower fares that include checked baggage and in-flight meals at no additional cost, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Abang Johari said the announcement will cover several major routes, particularly the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching service, in line with the State government’s commitment to making air travel more affordable for Sarawakians

“I can give a little hint. The Kuala Lumpur-Kuching flight fares will be cheaper, just as we promised.

“The price will also include baggage and in-flight meals because airlines usually impose extra charges for baggage, but for AirBorneo, everything has been factored in, including meals on board,” he told reporters after officiating at the handover ceremony of the construction fund for the Sri Satok Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) building here today.

Abang Johari said the new fare packages are part of the State government’s broader effort to offer travellers better value while improving air connectivity through its own airline.

Earlier this year, he announced that AirBorneo is expected to commence jet aircraft operations this month as the second phase of the State-owned carrier’s expansion.

The initial jet operations are expected to serve routes between Kuching and Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore and Jakarta following the airline’s first phase, which focused on Rural Air Services (RAS) using turboprop aircraft. — DayakDaily
