KUCHING, Aug 8: A photography and report writing competition will be open to all Sarawakian media houses throughout the entirety of Malaysia Games (Sukma), which will commence on Aug 17, across Sarawak, says Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol.

According to Abdullah, both categories are open exclusively to Sarawakians, including radio reporters, cameramen, journalists, and even photographers.

“For the photographers, throughout the entire Sukma, you will be taking photos.

“The photos you submit must demonstrate a high value of sportsmanship, humanities, closeness, and solidarity among the athletes. It’s more than just reaching the finish line,” said Abdullah during the ‘Randau Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024: Ukas Bersama Media’ at a hotel in Kuching today.

Each person may submit up to two photos to Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), but only one winning photo will be chosen.

Meanwhile, for the report writing competition, Abdullah emphasised that the submitted content should go beyond merely reporting the results of the sports events.

“You (media) play a big role in every event. Your wisdom in writing and reports can help enliven Sukma. Results are not the only important things to report, but also the spirit and values of sportsmanship,” he said.

Winners of the SUKMA photography category and the report writing category will receive RM2,000 for first place, RM1,000 for second, and RM500 for third.

“Ukas will be managing the competition for both categories, and winners will be informed during a media appreciation event after Sukma,” Abdullah said. — DayakDaily
