KUCHING, July 24: The second phase of upgrading Jalan Baru Matang is expected to complete by May 2025.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Aidel Lariwoo said the upgrading works involve widening the 4.4-kilometre road stretch from Matang Jaya Road to Batu Kawah Road.
“The project’s development has achieved progress of 4.72 per cent so far with a construction cost of RM54 million.
“Therefore, we will ask the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) and the appointed contractor to expedite the road construction project,” he said during a site visit with Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman today.
Based on a previous report, Mirecont Sdn Bhd was the rescue contractor appointed to take over the Jalan Baru Matang sick project.
Upon completion, the road would be expanded from the existing two lanes to four lanes, hoping to ease traffic congestion in the area.
The first phase, which involved a one-kilometre stretch costing around RM4 million, started at the Datuk Temenggong Abang Kipali Abang Akip Roundabout up to the E-Mart Supermall area. — DayakDaily
