KUCHING, Nov 1: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is the first coalition contesting in Sarawak to release its finalised candidate list for the 15th General Election (GE15), except for Julau.

As of today, PH which is made up of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Amanah Nasional (Amanah) has unveiled 30 of their candidates for Sarawak. Sarawak has 31 parliamentary seats in total.

Sarawak DAP will vie for eight parliamentary seats, comprising six urban seats and two rural seats. The urban seats are Bandar Kuching (Dr Kelvin Yii), Stampin (Chong Chieng Jen), Bandar Sibu (Oscar Ling), Lanang (Alice Lau), Sarikei (Roderick Wong) and Bintulu (Tony Chiew) while the rural seats are Mas Gading (Mordi Bimol) and Serian (Larry Jabul).

Of the eight seats, Sarawak DAP won six of them in the last general election — Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Bandar Sibu, Lanang, Sarikei and Mas Gading.

Amanah, on the other hand will contest in six seats, namely Batang Lupar (Maxwel Rojis), Kota Samarahan (Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili), Tanjong Manis (Zainab Suhaili), Santubong (Mohamad Zen Peli), Igan (Hud Andri Zulkarnaen) and Batang Sadong (Lahaji Lahiya).

Amanah did not win any seat in the last general election.

Meanwhile, PKR Sarawak will be contending in 16 seats. PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced its candidates in 16 constituencies earlier today in Miri.

It is unclear if PKR will field any candidate for Julau.

The 16 seats the party will be contesting for are Miri (Chiew Choon Man), Baram (Roland Engan), Hulu Rajang (Abun Sui Anyit), Petra Jaya (Jaya-Sopian Julahi), Puncak Borneo (Diog Dios); Sri Aman (Tay Wei Wei), Lubok Antu (Langa Lias), Betong (Patrick Kamis), Saratok (Ibil Jaya), Kanowit (Mohd Fauzi Abdullah @Joseph), Mukah (Abdul Jalil Bujang), Selangau (Umpang Salang), Kapit (Khusyairy Pangkas Abdullah), Sibuti (Zolhaidah Suboh), Limbang (Racha Balang) and Lawas (Japar Suyut).

In the 2018 General Election, PKR won four federal seats, namely Puncak Borneo (Datuk Willie Mongin), Saratok (Datuk Ali Biju), Miri (Dr Michael Teo) and Selangau (Baru Bian).

After the Sheraton Move, Willie left PKR to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) before joining Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB). Ali also joined Bersatu and remained there.

Baru, after the Sheraton Move, left PKR to join Parti Bersatu Sarawak (PSB).

Only Dr Teo continued to remain in PKR but earlier today it was revealed he would be replaced by a new face, Chiew Choon Man, who is a lawyer by profession.
