ABU DHABI, Nov 7: The status of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) as the sole gas aggregator in Sarawak will be announced soon, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari previously shared that discussions with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) on natural gas distribution in Sarawak had been completed.

On Oct 31, he also notified that PETRONAS has agreed in principle and is expected to send an official letter to the Sarawak government.

Petros was supposed to take over PETRONAS’ role in the buying and selling of natural gas as well as acquisition, supply, and distribution of natural gas produced in Sarawak, beginning July 1, 2024.

However, PETRONAS has requested that the takeover be postponed, and the Sarawak government has agreed to give them only three months until Oct 1, 2024.

Also present at the meeting were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak Energy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, PETROS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Hamid Bugo, and senior Sarawak government officials. — DayakDaily
