KUCHING, Sept 3: Petronas has paid a cumulative State Sales Tax (SST) of RM13 billion to Sarawak since 2020 and a cumulative RM3 billion to Sabah.
Petronas President and Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Kamadjaja Aziz disclosed this during a dialogue session with the media in Kuala Lumpur recently.
He said that Sarawak and Sabah had been paid SST a combined total of over RM8 billion for 2022, of which the latter was entitled to ‘under three quarters’ of the cake. Sarawak was paid approximately RM6 billion while Sabah about RM2 billion.
Nevertheless, he explained that Sarawak received more SST than Sabah due to the volume difference in gas production in both States.
Additionally, he said the payment is done every month.
“It is just like the previous ‘sales tax’ in Sarawak whereby the collection is done monthly,” he said. — DayakDaily
