KUCHING, March 30: Badan Kebajikan Kakitangan Islam PETRONAS or PETRONAS Muslim Staff Welfare Association (BAKIP) this year are contributing RM114,600 to some 548 asnaf—the less privileged group who are eligible to receive zakat (tithe) aid collected from Muslims.
According to a press release issued by PETRONAS, part of the zakat contribution was distributed by Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, to 219 asnaf from Demak Laut during the Petronas Iftar Perdana event held at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) Demak here yesterday (March 29).
Meanwhile, recipients from the Satok area received their zakat from BAKIP today at Rumah Seni, Satok and Juma’ani Welfare Centre, Satok.
The contributions were distributed by Satok assemblyman Dato Ibrahim Baki and the wife of Sarawak Premier Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, respectively.
For the asnaf at Samariang, they will receive their zakat contribution before April 3.
Speaking at the event, PETRONAS Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mantali said Bakip would also distribute zakat to the asnaf in Samarahan, Bintulu, and Miri.
“This initiative reflects BAKIP’s unwavering commitment to alleviating the burdens of those in need, particularly during this sacred month of Ramadan,” he said.
Kuching District Officer Sofhi Jebal and BAKIP Sarawak chairman Abby Sukardi Mohamad were also present.
BAKIP is an Islamic welfare organisation facilitated by PETRONAS to oversee the collection and distribution of Zakat contributions from employees for the benefit of asnaf communities across Malaysia. — DayakDaily
