KUCHING, May 28: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) invested RM25 billion in Sarawak in 2024, marking a significant boost to the State’s oil and gas sector, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
In his winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today, Awang Tengah revealed that the investment included nine first hydrocarbon discoveries and two major production milestones—the Kasawari field in Block SK316 and the Jerun field in Block SK408.
“Ongoing offshore development and exploration projects are in progress to ensure future energy security,” he said.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, further said PETRONAS is intensifying frontier exploration through data enrichment and strategic partnerships for seismic processing, reinforcing Sarawak’s role in Malaysia’s energy sector, supporting long-term energy security and economic growth. — DayakDaily
