KUCHING, May 28: A 52-year-old foreign man was killed after being hit by a Lamborghini while crossing Airport Road yesterday (May 27) evening, with the 54-year-old local driver now detained to assist police investigations.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 6.50pm and involved the victim, a general worker at the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) construction site, who was crossing the road when he was struck by the high-powered vehicle.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said initial investigations found that the victim was attempting to cross the road when he was hit by the car, which was heading from Jalan Lapangan Terbang towards Padungan.
“The impact caused the victim to suffer serious head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Sarawak General Hospital,” he said in a statement today.
Following the incident, the Lamborghini driver was taken into custody to facilitate further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death, which carries a penalty of five to ten years’ imprisonment and a fine between RM20,000 and RM50,000, upon conviction.
