PETRONAS 50th Anniversary torch makes first pit stop in Sarawak

KUCHING, Aug 6: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) has kickstarted its 50th Anniversary celebration in Sarawak with the arrival of the “PETRONAS Homecoming Torch” in Miri on July 27.

In a statement today, PETRONAS stated that the torch, one of two, is on a nationwide tour titled “The Journey of the Twin Torches” and would be paying homage to places and events celebrating the rich history, achievements and contributions of various locations within the PETRONAS ecosystem.

PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd Senior General Manager — Sarawak Asset (SKA) Noriani @ Yati Mohamad said the Homecoming Torch Journey signifies a momentous milestone in its 50-year legacy.

“It also represents the company’s transition from pioneers to innovators, emphasising the continuous passage of growth and excellence. It aims to inspire and motivate the next generation of PETRONAS leaders to carry forward the legacy and shape the future of the energy company,” she added.

“Apart from that, it is also a celebration of PETRONAS’ history, remarkable achievements, and significant contributions not only within the PETRONAS ecosystem but also within the vibrant tapestry of our community.

“It is a symbol of pride, belonging, and a sense of shared purpose among our employees, stakeholders, and the communities in our areas of operation,” she elaborated.

She pointed out that PETRONAS has achieved numerous milestones throughout the decades, including the company’s establishment in 1974 and taking operatorship of the Miri Crude Oil Terminal in 1988.

“These achievements marked the start of our journey in pioneering solutions across the oil and gas value chain. PETRONAS will continue to be a strategic partner to Sarawak to preserve a thriving and conducive investment climate in Malaysia,” she said.

In conjunction with the arrival of the homecoming torch, SKA held the “Road to PETRONAS 50—PETRONAS Amazing Race” in Miri.

The programme saw the participation of 25 teams including from government agencies and local authorities, successfully enhanced networking and collaboration between PETRONAS and its stakeholders in Miri.

Also present were the Mayor of Miri City, Adam Yii Siew Sang and Resident of Miri, Jamalie Jahi Busri and PETRONAS management—its Chief Integrity Officer, Mohamad Zakuan Talib; Vice President, Group Health Safety & Environment, Yong Sai Chung and Senior General Manager, Group Strategic Relations and Communications, Arni Laily Anwarrudin. — DayakDaily
