MIRI, July 1: Permyjaya here has been chosen for ‘Ops Harapan’, a month-long crime prevention programme that was officially launched nationwide today.
More than 60 police personnel, including those from the General Operations Force (GOF), have been roped in to mount more patrols in this residential suburb.
Miri Crime Prevention and Community Safety (CPCS) chief, DSP Rosley Hobden, told reporters at Lorong 6 this afternoon that the operation aimed to protect and safeguard the public from crime.
“It also helps improve public perception by increasing police presence in the area,” he said, adding that the operation would focus on foot patrols for better police-community interactions.
Rosley said Permyjaya was picked for ‘Ops Harapan’ based on its population density and higher crime index.
“Permyjaya has recorded a high crime index for house break-ins and vehicle thefts,” he said. — DayakDaily
