KUCHING, Aug 14: The six state polls in Peninsular Malaysia have remained status quo due to disunity and playing racial and religious sentiments, says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He was referring to the state polls in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, which took place on Aug 12.
“You know the results; they are still like that—disunited.
“Some of them used trends based on race (and religion)—among the Muslims, and between the Malays and non-Malays,” he said when officiating at the Tanjung Manis Fishing Safari 2023 closing ceremony in conjunction with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation’s (STIDC) Golden Jubilee anniversary celebration broadcast live by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) on Facebook yesterday (Aug 13).
He further said Sarawak is lucky because it is governed under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“We do not play (up) racial (sentiments).
“What we do is to develop the State, and Alhamdulillah, due to our unity, our State has been able to increase our economy.
“Only within six months under my leadership, Sarawak’s (annual) revenue has doubled from RM6 billion to almost RM12 billion,” he added.
In the 2023 state polls, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) joint coalition continue to reign over Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang while Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu are still being tightly clenched by Perikatan Nasional (PN). — DayakDaily
