KUCHING, Aug 22: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) youth holds that the party’s membership recruitment policy is not open to public discussion, but PDP will naturally consult with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leadership when issues that could impact component parties arise.
In stating this, PDP youth chief David Yeo Ang Lim said as the political landscape of Sarawak has matured considerably, PDP is taking a page out of GPS’ playbook to be inclusive and progressive.
The collaboration of PDP and PSB, he believed, should be seen as a golden opportunity to consolidate and further GPS’ ability to build a better Sarawak as it is based on the objective of better service to Sarawakian communities.
Stressing that the bigger picture must not be forgotten, he claimed that the collaborative efforts currently underway are carried out with the knowledge and consent of GPS top leadership.
“Any collaboration or merger starts with a foundation of understanding and trust. PDP is persuading PSB that a strong GPS government is good for its supporters. PSB president YB Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has expressed his desire to have the potential merger happen under the larger umbrella of PDP as well. The Unity Dinner on Aug 19 is a testament to this potential future,” said Yeo.
He said discussions such as who gets what seats should be put aside. PDP, alongside the component parties of GPS, are above these squabbles meant to only promote self-interest, he claimed.
“For example, we would revert to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and GPS leadership to ascertain the best winnable candidates for each seat during elections,” said Yeo.
He said at this stage, PSB is looking to join PDP and PDP will not turn away potential members who are aligned with its political ideals. — DayakDaily
